TODAY'S FORECAST

THE SOAR METEOROLOGIST COLLECTS METEOROLOGICAL DATA AND PERFORMS AN ANALYSIS ON A DAILY BASIS.

USUALLY, METEOROLOGISTS LOOK AT SATELLITE PICTURES TO LOCATE THE MAIN FEATURES IN THE ATMOSPHERE AND THEN ZOOM IN THEIR TARGET AREA TO EVALUATE THE POTENTIAL FOR CONVECTIVE CLOUDS THAT COULD BENEFIT FROM SEEDING.

Today's forecast updated 09/01/05 06:50 PM  for 09/02/05 by Joe Merchant

Synopsis

ZONAL FLOW ALOFT IN THE UPPER LEVELS TODAY WILL GIVE WAY TO AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OVER THE WEEKEND. A SHEAR AXIS TO OUR SOUTH AND VORTICITY ADVECTION TO OUR NORTH WILL SUSTAIN WEAK UPPER LEVEL INSTABILITY ACROSS THE REGION. HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING IN OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES WILL KEEP THE SURFACE SUITABLY STABLE TO PREVENT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS FROM DEVELOPING OVER WEST TEXAS. BUT WITH NORTH/NORTHEAST FLOW ALOFT AND A WEAK LLJ FORMING AT 850MB TO OUR SOUTH WE MAY SEE TSTORMS DEVELOP ALONG THE MOUNTAINS IN NEW MEXICO TODAY AND SLOWLY MOVE WESTWARD BUT WOULD ONLY AFFECT THE WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE SOAR TARGET AREA IF AT ALL. BY TOMORROW, THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL HAVE A FIRM GRASP ON THE AREA AND SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE SHOULD SUPPRESS ANY CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT, DESPITE CONTINUED WEAK INSTABILITY ALOFT WRAPPED IN UPPER LEVEL FLOW. BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WILL BE CENTERED OVER WEST TEXAS ALONG WITH AMPLIFIED SURFACE HIGH PROVIDING BRIGHT SUNSHINE ACROSS OUR REGION.
