When the crystals grow at temperatures around -10 ºC, they begin to develop arms and branches, the stereotypical snow crystal. Such crystals not only are efficient at growing at the expense of water droplets, they also easily stick to one another forming large aggregates we call snowflakes. Finally, the drops have grown to a size that they can fall in a reasonable time to the surface without evaporating, hence Precipitation.
